Glaciers in Norway are getting smaller and smaller. It has been proven that of the thirty glaciers, that had been examined, twenty four had considerably been diminished due to global warning. This is also the case in New Zealand.

I copied this from Pam.
In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from.

Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations. VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour. Saturday, March 28, 8:30-9:30pm.

Sky Watch is hosted by Klaus, Sandy, Ivar, Wren, Fishing Guy & Louise
Thank you so much for this great meme, it's always a pleasure to participate, and see all the other skies around the world. If you want to see the other skies please click on the logo in the side bar.

Brilliant idea reader wil - I have put it on the calendar. We do get power cuts here sometimes as we are out in the wilds - so we have a plentiful supply of candles.

I'm in too.

I have never been to Norway and it is still an ambition to go there. The rest of Scandinavia has been explored years ago.

We have a blue sky today. No clouds.
A still wind. Bringing in cold weather from Canada. Not nice. But the sun is shinning.

Hello Wil, sorry I haven't been around much, been busy with one thing or another. Hope all is going well with you and family. Lovely photos as usual. It's time to start some dinner/supper. Seems it's an never ending battle. LOL

Oh, how sad that the glaciers are also affected. But anyhow, they are great sky photos.

PS I also did some post on Earth Hour just before my skywatch. :)

Saving energy is one of the many things we can do to save this planet. It's our home after all and it's our duty to preserve it. I also suggest planting trees in your gardens , in your backyards, in the nearby countryside. If the loss of even the scant annual rainfall of Cape Verde were to become a long-term feature, it is very doubtful whether careful farming practices could ...save a way of life.

I`m gonna swith of my lights, yes. The least we could do for the earth. Scary how we destroy it.

Though your message today is worried - I still get proud of my country when I see your last picture! Gorgeous - both from New Zealand and Norway :)

Weekend soon - enjoy :)

I have read about that, and had already decided to join! But a great idea to prepare others for it - and remind those uf us who can forget it! I will switch out the lights and internett - everything electric!

And such beautiful shots of the glaciers! And as Lene said; I am also proud of Norway seeing something so wonderful as your photo shows! But - it is disturbing to think of, they are getting smaller and smaller everywhere on our planet.

Thanks for sharing this!

I can vouch for the reduced size of Norwegian glaciers. It is an issue of great concern.

That Vote Earth sounds like a good thing.

Yes, global warming is a big problem for all of us earth dwellers, and Earth Hour is an excellent idea.
Wonderful photos of the glaciers, or what's left of them. Love your new title photo, too.

Nice shots of the glaciers. I remember the difference in the Rhone glacier in Switzerland which, in a matter of 8 years 1969 to 76,had marched back up the valley a considerable distance. The glaciers in the European Alps have retreated so much that the openings to old mines of the millde ages are now laid bare and the htels that once stood at the tongue, are now miles away. The great glaciers of Iceland, Vatnajokul and Skaftafell are also diminishing and the only near glacier in Australia that we had, the Twyneham Drift, melted decades ago. Yes , the world is warming up again,, but so it gas done since time immemorial. We have always drifted between ice ages and global warming, now, with our ease of instant communication, we just hear about it in all corners of teh globe.

Luckily I am well stocket with candles still. There'll be an hour of romantic candle light. I would not want images such as these to be only something in the past. they are so beautiful.

you know it would be an interesting sight to see the lights switched off...from the skies. just think if 1/4 of the people ina metropolitan area switched off their lights what an impact that would be
lovely photos as always and most interesting post.
have a wonderful weekend.

Beautiful photos of the glaciers. when I was in SWL in 07 we travelled past one of the glaciers.A lot of it was diminished. We have just switched our whole house to led lights. It was a major task but they barely touch the Electricity. It is a saving for the environment and for the purse in the long run.
You have noticed the difference in the the moon. Good observation.
I red your "about me") it sounds like you have spend some time in "Tenko" conditions. Have a nice Sunday T.

Global warming is a tragic situation that all on earth have to witness. Lights out is an excellent way of promoting awareness, and less use of our energy so as not to squander it.
