that's My World: Souvenirs from Australia II

These souvenirs were taken from The Coloured Sands, a group of dunes with a variety of at least five colours sand. Every time we go to Australia we try to make a trip to these beautiful hills. They are situated in Aboriginal land, but we always go together with the in-laws of my daughter. As they are Aboriginal, there's no problem.

My daughter's mother-in-law went with us this time and, as she is a great fisherwoman, we expexted her to catch one fish after the other. This time she didn't catch one single fish. We boiled water in a billy over an open fire and when the billy boiled, we made tea. To keep those Australian memories alive I have my souvenirs in my Dutch world. There are creative people who put all the different colours one by one in a bottle and use fabulous patterns. The top photo shows how it looks. I must confess that I didn't create this, but bought the bottle at the local souvenirs' shop.

Wow Wil, you see the great places in Australia. All that nature and history.

What beautiful colors. Wonder what causes that?

I was expecting something else when I read coloured sads Wil, as there is also a beach in Q'land called that. To be able to experience tribal lands with a local is something indeed! Wonderful colours. Some twenty years ago one could buy sand paintings between two sheeets of glass tha you could turn like an hour glass and they created fabulous and varied landscapes as the sands did not mix, just formed different patterns like a kaleidoscope.
Lovely photos, your header is more like a painting than a photo.

Thank you so much for your kind thoughts during my enforced absence.

Australia really is a fascinating part of the world when we think about evolution alone let alone the stunning Landscape that you have captured in a jar.

It looks like Australia's landscape is as varied as that of the US - a few years ago in Colorado I saw red rocks mountains like these - it's called the "the garden of the gods" in Colorado Springs. A clever way to keep your memories alive, to put the sands in a bottle :) - beautiful!

Great snaps. I remember making coloured sand bottle with my children but we cheated and coloured the sand ourselves.

Wonderful photos, Wil.

Are there laws against people traveling on aboriginal land without an Aboriginal?

The mountains are beautiful. And I find the sands so interesting as my girl is always up to collecting sands with every new place she visits. But these ones you have must be extraordinary. Thanks for sharing. Groetjes!

That's a good idea to make a sand jar with native sand. Never thought of that ... we used to make them with colored sand at the beach ...

Lovely place, I'd like to visit it myself. And I'm in awe of being able to make sand paintings in a jar. It must take lots of concentration and steady hands.

Whoa! Sand has so many colors there. I would have seen just two or three here. I liked the souvenir very much. May be when I visit Australia...

Do you go round looking for nice bottles to put your sand in?

My husband once bought lots of white sand from Australia for his work. he got some for Sam's sand pit. they were absolutely fine and white. The kids loved it.

What a cool array of sands!
I loved visiting Aussie land years ago.
Your header photo reminds me of many of my Equine photo's with my mare's head or ears in the fore front!

gday Wil.. love your header . The colours in the cliffs are beautiful.. I got my sands from Rainbow beach.

I found this little imformation about rainbow beach

wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Beach,_Queensland
Rainbow Beach is a coastal town in south-eastern Queensland, Australia, near Gympie. At the 2001 census, Rainbow Beach had a population of 999. [1] The town's name derives from the rainbow-coloured sand dunes surrounding the settlement
