Sky Watch : Sea, Sky and Sand. Cooktown, Australia.

A not so sunny sky over the Endeavour River in August 2008.

Captain Cook had landed in this area in June 1770. Cooktown didn't exist then and the river was called Wahalumbaal, but it got the name of Endeavour River after Cook's ship. The river is a very long one, twisting inland, and it harbours all kind of unique animals like saltwater crocs.

Sky Watch is hosted by Klaus, Sandy, Ivar, Wren, Fishing Guy & Louise
Thank you so much for this great meme, it's always a pleasure to participate, and see all the other skies around the world. If you want to see the other skies please click on the logo in the side bar.

Beautiful scenes. Austrailia is on my "bucket list", right after I win the lottery. Facinating country.

It's fascinating to imagine what it was like for Captain Cook and crew, pulling into this harbor.

It looks like a lovely spot, river, land, beach and all. But I have heard some nasty stories about those saltwater crocs...

Are there crocodiles in the river? Last November, my husband went to Queensland on a out back job. He saw a crocodile. Must look back among my archives to see where he went.

Yes , of course, I said friday, d but is was saturday .
However, I'm ready

Miss_Yves said...

As always your photos are fabulous. Thank's for taking me along, I enjoyed the journey;)

Reader Wil said...

Miss_Yves said...

Chère Reader Will

Votre traduction me semble excellente!

Quelques petites nuances:

"wonderful suns":ajouter
"and very "wonderful suns -si c'est correct
Dernier vers:
"my meadow and my cottage"sonnera très bien .
Amicalement

Miss_Yves said...

D'accord ...
Est-ce que "model cottages"conviendrait ?
c'est aussi l'idée de"gentillesse"
:"gentilles petites maisons"(cottages)

Barbara Martin said...

Wonderful photos and accompanying historical bits.

Reader Wil said...

Chère Miss Yves, oui "model cottages"conviendrait! Encore, merci!
