That's My World: Tradition.

Another Dutch tradition is the Abraham any male, who is fifty, gets, and a female gets a Sarah. An Abraham is a big piece of pastry in the shape of a doll decorated with almonds and cherries. Last week, when I was having my birthday, we celebrated my son-in-law's fiftieth birthday at the same time and gave him the Abraham you see here.

That's my World is hosted by Klaus, Ivar, Wren, Fishing Guy & Tom - a Team of experienced bloggers, whom we thank for this wonderful meme. You can see more of the world of other bloggers by clicking on the logo in the side bar.

That is one nice tradition. An Abraham or Sarah is something to look forward to getting when coming of "age".

Wil: What a neat tradition with the pastry. I wonder how being 50 came about, half a century?

Sounds like a wonderful tradition. I doubt your daughters are old enough yet to receive a Sarah. Do they look different then the Abraham?

That's a custom I didn't know - is it as yummy to eat as it is pretty in the box?

Leuke traditie. We kennen wel de traditie in België, ikzelf werd Abraham enkele maanden geleden maar deze speculoos poppen hebben we niet bij ons in Vlaanderen.

Very interesting tradition. I'm not quite ready for my Sarah but my birthday is in a few days so it's getting closer and closer to that 5-0 mark. ugh!

What a lovelytradition! My daughter turned 50 yesterday and my sister flew in trom Melbourne with a huge Torte with buttercream and the works. My sister is 76 and carried this immense weight keeping it level all through the ivast Melbourne airport. Now that's what I call a devoted godmother!.
