Remembrance Day, Today's Flowers are Poppies
Today's Flowers is dedicated to Remembrance Day to commemorate all those who died in the wars of the past century. It stands to reason that this flower should be a red poppy!
More about Remembrance Day here
Flanders fields (Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, 1872-1918)
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Very appropriate - in Flanders 1918 poppies were the only flower that could grow.

People say "I want peace."
If you remove I (ego),
and your
want (desire),
you are left with peace.

Beautiful Post! The poppies are great...and I really liked seeing your header with the ducks sitting on the edge of that tub :0)
So good to see that someone else was brought up to remember.
Poppies, flowers of field and way side,
gleaming in the cornfield or meadow gay,
where are the sons we lost that day?
Wonderful tribute. Beautiful poppies. Too many died in the fields in WWI.
Lovely poppies, Wil. In the USA, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) sell paper poppies for us to wear in remembrance of those who fell in the war. Thanks for sharing the photos and poem.

I was at the Henri Chapelle US Cemetery in Belgium this summer, it commemorates a major battle field (a hilltop) of the Battle of the Bulge. Even today, there are Americans there every day visiting it.
Wil: Red Poppies, how could you go wrong with these photos. A wonderful remembrance.
That's such a sweet tribute.
So, I take it that poppies and November are international for remembrance. How cool! I love the duck picture!
