Viking women were independent. They chose their own husband and could divorce him when they want.

I wonder what it was like living in a house made that way?

Yea, I think it was warm but dirty!

My family has a long history in Swansea where I was born and it sems likely we are of Viking descent.
Informative 'V's.

Wonderful post... we cannot forget our Vikings... thanks for the lesson!

Michele thanks for the visit! The Vikings were fierceful, but left their traces all over Europe. We could learn a lot of them.

I love your post - very informative about the Vikings. I especially love how the women would have been a force to reckon with...ahead of their times by being the chooser and the "tosser outer." lol

Yes Leslie, they were very emancipated and strong. The Vikings claimed to have the first parliament in Europe and they were the first democrates too.

I should think the turf houses were warm but smoky.

I live in Swansea, which is said to be named after a Viking, Sweyn.

Thank you Liz for this extra information!

Dragonstar I agree with you that the Vikings were really interesting people who had a great influence on our world.

These are great pictures and information. Chicago had a Viking ship on display so from childhood I have been fascinated by the idea of Vikings.
