Psalms Challenge, Psalm 14

1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."
They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds,
there is none who does good.
2The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man,
to see if there are any who understand,
who seek after God.

3They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.

4Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers
who eat up my people as they eat bread
and do not call upon the LORD?

5There they are in great terror,
for God is with the generation of the righteous.
6You would shame the plans of the poor,
but the LORD is his refuge.

7Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people,
let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

ABC Wednesday, K for Koala

The koala is a marsupial. The female has a pouch, where her tiny, hairless baby grows, after the mother has given birth and helped it crawl into the pouch. Inside the pouch the baby finds a nipple. It stays attached to the nipple until it
has grown fur and can see. After seven months, the baby starts to climb out of the pouch and wanders around in the vicinity of its mother. A koala spends most of its time asleep in forks of gum trees. It eats leaves of the gum tree, lots of it because they don't give much energy. Koalas live in eastern Australia where they depend on the gum trees( eucalypts).The koala has two thumps on each front paw.This helps the koala to grip onto the trunks of trees easily
The koala is only found in Australia. A female koala can breed at two years of age, while the male can breed at the age of five, after he has found a home range. The time between mating and birth is about 35 years."

I am sorry to say that I didn't see koalas myself, except in zoos of course. So these photos were taken from a book I bought in Australia.

I got these photos by e-mail!

It is not common for a Koala to bear twins and, regrettably
in this instance, the Mum was struck and killed by a passing car.

Fortunately, the driver stopped, and took the mother to the
local vet, not knowing she was dead, - where it was soon discovered that she had these twins in her pouch.
First photo: Tiny Koala being fed with syringe...so tiny!!
Followed by a pictorial chronology of their growth..

That's my World ,The City of Gouda

In the Middle Ages, a settlement was founded at the location of the current city by the Van der Goude family, who built a fortified castle alongside the banks of the Gouwe River, from which the family and the city took its name. The area, originally marshland, developed over the course of two centuries. By 1225, a canal was linked to the Gouwe and its estuary was transformed into a harbour. Gouda's array of historic churches and other buildings makes it a very popular day trip destination

Psalms Challenge, Psalm 13

How Long, O Lord?
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
13:1 How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I take counsel in my soul
and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,
4 lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”
lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.

5 But I have trusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the Lord,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.

This psalm looks a lot like psalm 10. The last verse shows David's trust and love. He praises the Lord.
And the other verses don't show hatred, but despair and sadness.

ABC Wednesday, J for Judo

Posted by Picasa

Judo ( meaning "gentle way") is a modern martial art and combat sport created in Japan in 1882 by Dr Kano Jigoro.

The early history of judo is inseparable from its founder, Japanese polymath and educator Jigoro Kano ( 1860–1938). Kano was born into a well-to-do Japanese family. His grandfather was a self-made man, a sake brewer from Shiga prefecture in central Japan. However, Kano's father was not the eldest son and therefore did not inherit the business. Instead, he became a Shinto priest and government official, with enough influence for his son to enter the second incoming class of Tokyo Imperial University.

Judo was very popular in my family.All our children were practising judo during a couple of years. The youngest had a yellow belt, the second youngest a green one, and the belt of my eldest child was blue. To get a new belt they needed to do an examination. They start with a white belt, which is then followed by yellow, orange, green, blue, brown and black. The black belt is divided in dans.

The first time judo was seen in the Olympics was at the 1932 Games in Los Angeles, where Kano and about 200 judo students gave a demonstration. Judo became an Olympic sport for men in the 1964 Games in Tokyo. With the persistence of Rena Kanokogi, an American, and many others, judo became an Olympic sport for women as well in 1988. It is often stated that the men's judo event in 1964 was a demonstration event, but according to the International Judo Federation (IJF) and International Olympic Committee, judo was in fact an official sport in the 1964 games. Dutchman Anton Geesink won the first Olympic gold medal in the open division of judo by defeating Akio Kaminaga of Japan. Judo then lost the image of being "Japanese only" and went on to become one of the most widely practised sports in the world.

Psalms Challenge, Psalm 12

To the choirmaster: according to The Sheminith. A Psalm of David.
12:1 Save, O Lord, for the godly one is gone;
for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man.
2 Everyone utters lies to his neighbor;
with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

3 May the Lord cut off all flattering lips,
the tongue that makes great boasts,
4 those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail,
our lips are with us; who is master over us?”

5 “Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan,
I will now arise,” says the Lord;
“I will place him in the safety for which he longs.”

6 The words of the Lord are pure words,
like silver refined in a furnace on the ground,
purified seven times
.

7 You, O Lord, will keep them;
you will guard us from this generation forever.
8 On every side the wicked prowl,
as vileness is exalted among the children of man
.
