that's My World, ABC Wednesday, A for Amersfoort

The photos are borrowed from Wikipedia.Click to enlarge.

Amersfoort is a municipality and the second largest city of the province of Utrecht in central Netherlands. The city is growing quickly but has a well-preserved and protected medieval centre. Amersfoort is one of the largest railway junctions in the country, because of its location on two of the Netherlands' main east-west and north-south rail lines. The town celebrated its 750th birthday in 2009.

Psalms Challenge, Psalm 3

Photographer unknown!The young ones feel safe!

But you, O LORD, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
I cried aloud to the LORD,
and he answered me from his holy hill.

I lay down and slept;
I woke again, for the LORD sustained me.
I will not be afraid of many thousands of people
who have set themselves against me all around.

Arise, O LORD!
Save me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek;
you break the teeth of the wicked.

Salvation belongs to the LORD;
your blessing be on your people!

U, HEER, bent een schild om mij heen,
u bent mijn eer, u houdt mij staande.
Roep ik tot de HEER om hulp,
hij antwoordt mij vanaf zijn heilige berg.

Ik ga liggen, val in slaap
en word wakker – de HEER beschermt mij.
Ik vrees de tienduizenden niet
die mij aan alle kanten omringen.

Sta op, HEER, en red mij, God,
sla mijn vijanden in het gezicht,
breek de tanden van de wettelozen.
Bij u, HEER, is redding,
uw zegen rust op uw volk

Last year "Sea Life" was under the spell of Crab Zilla, a monstrous appearance in Sea
Life Scheveningen,in the Netherlands. On 3rd August, 2010 Crabzilla was to been seen here. It was the biggest living crab that was ever found in Europe.
The Japanese giant spider crab was caught the year before in the Pacific Ocean . The span of his claws is more than 3,5 meters. Crabzilla is 40 years old and weighs 15 kilos. His menu is simple: octopus, whiting and mussels.

The ruins of the mighty Roman Empire!!

Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

Daarom, koningen, wees verstandig, wees gewaarschuwd, leiders van de aarde.
Onderwerp u, toon de HEER uw ontzag, breng hem bevend uw hulde.

Sky Watch,Floods in Queensland

Continued flooding in Australia's Queensland state has put crocodiles and snakes in closer proximity to the people living in flooded-out areas, prompting authorities to warn the public about the unseen dangers under the water.

Rockhampton residents have reported seeing a greater number of snakes and other animals in the city, seeking higher ground in the wake of the floods. Along the swollen Fitzroy River, which runs through the city, there have even been some sightings of crocodiles, said Rockhampton Mayor Brad Carte.

I telephoned my daughter, who lives in Queensland and she told me that her house in Cooktown was okay. She is staying at Gympie now, where her friend's parents live. Their house is built in the hills and so it's dry. However to get back to Cooktown will take them three days and they have to cover a large area which is flooded. So you understand that I am quite worried and I am so sorry for the poor victims of the flood.

From left to right: Antigoni, me, Marina. The presents from Marina and Antigoni were beautifully wrapped in cellophane. The bottom photo shows my "oliebollen".

Sunday 2nd January I was pleasantly surprised, because I got a visit from my two Greek blogging friends with their families. Antigoni (http://antigonisdiary.blogspot.com/) was visiting her sister Marina (http://marinaslifefamily.blogspot.com/) in Brussels and thought they might come to my place, which was a tremendously great idea. We were happy to see each other and even had the feeling that we have known each other for a very long time. Marina brought some delicious Greek cakes and sweets. She is a wonderful cook. It was a pity they had to leave after an hour and a half. We had so much to talk about. We hope to meet again soon.Their children are lovely and speak English or French already.Marina and Dimitri have two daughters, and Antigoni and the second Dimitri have three daughters.

that's My World, ABC Wednesday Y for Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all bloggers! May this new year be full of happy surprises and lots of blogging fun! The past week has been very busy with our guests of the Taizé community. Now we celebrate New year's Eve together eating "oliebollen"( kind of doughnut balls stuffed with raisins). As there are a lot of foreigners we might also sing: "Should auld Acquaintance be forgot...

Auld Lang Syne Lyrics (contemporary)

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and days of long ago?

CHORUS:

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for days of long ago.
And surely you’ll buy your pint cup!
And surely I’ll buy mine!
And we'll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for days of long ago.

CHORUS

We two have run about the hills,
and pulled the daisies fine;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since days of long ago.

CHORUS

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine (dinner time);
But seas between us broad have roared
since days of long ago.

CHORUS

And there’s a hand my trusty friend!
And give us a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for days of long ago.

CHORUS
