Sky Watch: The Universe..

Lastweek we commemorated the fact that the first man walked on the moon. Since then we got more and more interested in space. Are there other worlds like ours out there?

We know our sun, and the planets circling around the sun. But can you imagine how small we are, if you see these pictures??

ANTARES
IS THE 15TH BRIGHTEST STAR IN THE SKY .
IT IS MORE THAN 1000 LIGHT YEARS AWAY. Seeing this we come to think about our humble existence on a planet too small to be important compared to the sun. Our sun is in its turn very insignificant next to Antares.
HOW BIG ARE YOU?
AND HOW BIG ARE THE THINGS
THAT UPSET YOU TODAY?
Let's see everything in perspective.

that's My World The Dutch Castle of Middachten

Please click on slide to enlarge.

History

The first mention of Middachten Castle appears in a document dated 1190. The present building dates from the end of the 17th century but incorporates parts of the original early medieval castle. Middachten owes its unique character to the fact that it is still a real estate which includes woods, farms and agricultural land. Within all this lies the park and the beautiful gardens which surround the castle.

Middachten has never been sold but has passed from one generation to the next. The current owner, Isabelle, Countess Ortenburg van Aldenburg Bentinck, is the 24th to inherit the property. As a result of this unbroken line of inheritance the interior of the castle is still ‘complete'. Included in the original inventory is a large collection of portraits and many 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th century pieces of furniture. There are also original cupboards containing antique porselain tea and dinner sets, glass ware, silver and linen.

I got the information here

Sky Watch Down-Pour

The weather was good and dry when I posted a letter at four o'clock in the afternoon. Then all of a sudden it started to rain a bit. Nothing much. But a quarter to six it started again to rain, now it was a heavy down-pour with big hailstones. There was also some lightning and a thunderstorm brewing. I shut down the computer and took some photos of the rain coming down in buckets. It only lasted ten minutes, but the sewers couldn't take such an amount of water at once. So from my toilets the water gushed in the air, and my bathroom and lavatory were very wet. It's the second time this month.
The rain caused also damage on my topfloor. The gutter was overflowing and the skylight was leaking as well.

ABC Wednesday A for Awards

These are almost all the awards I got during the two years I am blogging at blogspot. They were given to me by my dear blogging friends. In the beginning I showed them on my blog, but there were too many, besides it took quite some time to pass the award on to 5, or 7 or more bloggers. So I decided to store them. I am very grateful that so many people thought me worthy enough to give me one of these beautiful awards. Thank you so much! I am only not going to pass awards on, I like you all just as much, my friends.
ABC has started again and I thank the team of Denise Nesbitt for this meme. For more entries please use the logo in the sidebar.

The World of My Neighbours!! Belgium's National Day

Félicitations à la Belgigue! Congratulations to Belgium!

After the Belgian Revolution in 1830 which resulted in the Belgian independence of the Netherlands, the National Congress decided to turn Belgium into a kingdom. That same congress proclaimed Leopold van Saksen-Coburg-Gotha first king of the Belgians.

The king came from England and arrived in Calais after this he was taken to Panne by coach. On the 21st July he was sworn in as first king of Belgium in Brussels. Since that time this day has been celebrated as a National Day.

Belgium is a unique country: half of the population speaks French and the other half Flemish which is related to Dutch. In fact we have the same grammar rules and understand each other perfectly well.

Camera Critters, at The Castle of Cheverney

To enlarge the images please click on slide!

The sky over Cheverny was blue and promised a great day! The hounds, which I chose for Camera Critters, were having a difficult time coping with the heat. Hunting is a regular pastime. It is said to be necessary to keep the game population in good condition and avoid overpopulation of boar and deer.

Camera Critters is hosted by Misty Dawn. Thank you so much Misty Dawn.We all enjoy seeing and talking about animals. All creatures great and small give us much pleasure. If you want to see more Camera Critters click on the logo in the side bar.

Sky Watch over Chambord

From Wikipedia:"The royal Château de Chambord at Chambord, Loir-et-Cher, France is one of the most recognizable châteaux in the world because of its very distinct French Renaissance architecture that blends traditional French medieval forms with classical Italian structures.

It was constructed by King François I, between 1518 and 1543.
Chambord is the largest castle in the Loire Valley, but was built to serve only as a hunting lodge for François I, who maintained his royal residences at Château de Blois and at Château d'Amboise."
