it is kind of an overwhelming structure in one instance but oh so beautiful architecturally. all the towers and spires and do-dads...wow.

So different! I've never seen a castle like that.
That was an impressive show - the closest I can come is La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. I have more than 100 shots from there. Some of them might do here.

I am always so amazed at the talent of those early builders.How on earth they created such intricate architecture with basically primitive tool compared to the buiders of today. Just beautiful.
Can't imagine living in something that large, even if I were a Duchess! But it certainly is magnificent, beneath that lovely sky!

The architecture is so beautiful, but as you know I am so biased about this country.
Persoonlijk val ik er niet zo voor, als ik dat mag zeggen, voor die mix met italiaanse structuren, ik vind het nogal druk zonder sierlijkheid en weinig omkaderd door luxueus groen. Maar is het echte grandeur, hoor !

We went to Chambord 25 years ago nd my daughter was only 7/8 years old. It ws indeed very French and very impressive. But through the French revolution, its was really only the outside, not much left inside. I wonder have they done more for the furnishing and decoration now. Thanks for sharing

I well remember chamber pots, Wil. It got so cold in our house in the winter time that our pot contents would freeze and had to be set on the kitchen cookstove to thaw out so they could be dumped in the toilet outside.
And then people, these days, complain about a stopped up drain. LOL

Wil, I came back to really enjoy this fairy tale castle properly as a little Sunday treat to myself. It is of course quite splendid but also designed whith such whimsical touches of decorative chimneys and dolls house features on the roofs. Just think if this were the Beast's castle in 'La Belle et la Bete' what wonders to discover as she finds her way around. You could never be bored in such a place if you had the run of it.
Your photos are just wonderful and bring out the humour as well as the splendour of the design.
